The C2E2 Sketch Report: Day 1

Written on Mon, Mar 21, 2011 by Matt posted by matt

C2E2 was upon us as we unshaven lads ventured once again to dominate McCormick place.  We did our selling with pride and broke through to record sales.  I personally brought home enough to pay for my cable bill.  But enough talk, on the Con sketch’s.

First up was a White Lantern Captain America.  See’s fitting seeing as the original just came back to life not that long ago.

Next up we have Power Girl showing her, *ahem*, problems finding the right kind of support.  Also, you can play where’s waldo with the atom in the picture.  See if you can find him.

We finally move on to my first commission that wasn’t in a sketch book.  Not that I don’t like the one’s in sketch books, but there’s something to be said for doing a commission sketch on it’s own page.

We have Delirium from Sandman in this shot.  For a entity/deity in the world, I thought she would talk a lot like Grr from Invader Zim.

Next up on the day’s sketch’s was the herald to a group of guys that would not only keep my busy, but keep me on my toes artistically.  We have Green Lantern Bobba Fett vs. Black Lantern Tick.  All in all, it didn’t come out to bad and I always have fun drawing The Tick.  But as I said, the herald of things to come….

This little guy turned out to be something of an oddity with the Orange Lantern Gollum.  For those not in the know, an Orange Lantern is very, very, very greedy and always wanting his lantern power battery.  This was actually the second time I was asked to make one of these this weekend.  The first gentleman’s I still have to do and will be mailing his copy to him.

Now we’re back to sketch books for this pic.  Red Lantern Wonder Woman.  This was done after the gentleman spun the Wheel-O-Lanterns to find out what color W.W. was to be.  Red for an amazon princess/warrior just seems to work.

Last but not least we come to Spider Jerusalem in a sketch book.  This was a twice special drawing as I was told by the person who bought it that he purposely sought me out to get a sketch from me.  Frigging Awesome!

The other blessing was that he handed me a virgin sketch book.  So being the first in a new book was something that meant a lot, especially since he trusted it to me.  So I might as well set the tone..

Well, that’s it for Day 1’s postings.  I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 2 and more fun stuff.  Sadly I didn’t get picks of every sketch I did, so if you got something from me this weekend at C2E2 2011, please send pic’s, link us to it on facebook or post it up in the comments section.

As always, click on the image to see a bigger version of it.

I received the red lantern from you guys. Love your work. Love the books. The floating head is awesome in the issues. Keep writing.

Schwing, if you can post a pic of it, that would be great for us to tie into these post’s. Glad your happy with it and you can see us again at Wizard in August for sure.

Matt, those are excellent sketches. I really like the Power Girl; I’m feeling a bit of Kevin Maguire there.

You already have a picture of my art work. It was the red lantern wonder woman. After seeing Golem and your other pieces I wish I was a little more creative. I would’ve loved to see a black lantern Papa Smurf. Now that would be one smurf you wouldn’t want to piss off. Great mashups!

Opps, sorry Schwing, I did a Red Lantern Venom in somebodies sketch book and I thought you where the owner of it. So sorry about that. But I’ll keep in mind the Black Lantern Papa Smurf just for fun.
